Optimize the Loading of Palletized Goods

Source: PaLA/BIBA
How might we place by machine three pallets side by side in a trailer with unstable, skewed walls without damaging the goods? BIBA researchers investigated this question in an online workshop using design thinking methods to further develop a loading system for palletized goods for use in curtain trailers. The workshop was held as part of the PaLA project, in which BIBA is working with the partners Procter & Gamble, DF-Duro Felguera and BAHAG to further develop a loading system for palletized goods.
The production facilities in Europe are highly automated, but the loading of products is still done manually. This is because the conditions in curtain trailers, which are most commonly used for transport, are challenging for an automated system. The researchers intend to meet these challenges. The project is part of the EIT Manufacturing initiative.
