At the 23rd Conference on Harbor, Maritime & Multimodal Logistics Modeling and Simulation 2021 (HMS 2021), the paper “Comparing a VR Ship Simulator Using an HMD with a Commercial Ship Handling Simulator in a CAVE Setup”, by BIBA scientist Rieke Leder and her former fellow student Matthis Laudan (Senacor Technologies AG), was honored with the Best Paper Award. The paper convinced the jury with the motivation to create more competence during the training of seafarers through extended simulator training. For this purpose, a simulator variant was introduced, which is more cost-effective and flexible compared to conventional simulators.
