We would like to congratulate our colleague Dennis Keiser on the successful completion of his doctorate on 17 January 2025. The thesis entitled ‘Systematics for the ecological assessment of aircraft cabins for integration into the configuration process using life cycle data’ was supervised by Prof. Michael Freitag, University of Bremen and Prof. Christoph Herrmann, Technische Universität Braunschweig, Institute of Machine Tools and Production Technology (IWF).
The focus of the dissertation was the development of a system for the ecological assessment of aircraft cabins with the aim of integrating this into the cabin configuration process. Dennis began by investigating ways of modelling the environmental impact. He also presented software for operationalising the system as part of his work. With the final analysis of transferability, the dissertation makes a contribution beyond the application context of the cabin and thus contributes to the integration of environmental sustainability in configuration processes of complex product systems.
