Data Sovereignty in the Wind Industry: BIBA at WindEnergy Hamburg

How can the enormous amounts of data generated by wind turbines throughout their entire lifecycle be used securely without losing control over sensitive company data? At the WindEnergy Hamburg trade show, BIBA colleague Dr.-Ing. Marco Franke presented potential solutions from the Wind-X research project.

In his presentation, “Sharing Data Without Losing Control – How a Federated Dataspace Future-Proofs the Wind Industry Across the Entire Asset Lifecycle,” he explained how to achieve sovereign data exchange between suppliers, operators, and service providers. Key technologies here include federated data spaces based on the principles of Manufacturing-X and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) as a cross-manufacturer standardized digital twin.

Using practical application cases, the presentation demonstrated the added value for the entire value chain: from reliable CO₂ footprint data (Product Carbon Footprint) during the manufacturing phase to networked condition data and more efficient maintenance processes during ongoing operations.

BIBA is now offering interested companies individual demonstrations of the developed data room demonstrator to discuss specific applications in their own operations. Please feel free to contact Dr.-Ing. Marco Franke.
